Last Show of the Season

Updated: 3 days ago

The 2024 Trekkies Tour wraps in San Francisco this weekend.

Even before When We Were Trekkies was completed in February, I was on the lookout for opportunities to promote and sell the series. I missed a few because the competition for convention tables is growing fierce. Nonetheless, I've managed to be a part of ten conventions and fests around the country, two podcasts (the second of which will drop shortly) and one special appearance as a “Cartoonist In Real Life.”

Thanksgiving weekend I'll be at Fan Expo in San Francisco, a franchise pop culture event that travels to 17 cities across North America, encompassing comics, anime, movies and TV with a strong cosplay component. I might be lost at a large show such as this, except that I'll be tabling with my friends from Starfleet International.

Yes, that's right, this Star Trek fan club has been around for 30 years with nearly 5000 members worldwide. Each chapter of the club is christened with a ship's name—our chapter is the USS Golden Gate, with a crew of over 100 members in four western states.

I'll be at the membership table, enlisting new crew members and (I hope) enticing them to check out my newly-boxed series as well. Until I get a publisher to take on an expanded and remastered trade paperback of Trekkies, these plastic boxes are the next best thing—all 220 pages in one package.

Now if you'll pardon me, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on the past year's itinerary, and begin to look ahead... Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
